You live in a nation based on multi culturism. I´m from a nation with the most monolithic society of any country worldwide. I have no experience of multicultirisim at all. So my experince of other cultures is very limited and only based on holiday travel. I do believe there are "cultures" and religions that can never treat others as equal.
Interesting points Akuma.I'd like to discuss them further but this is not the thread for it and things would probably get more than a little heated.
A better place to be for everyone concerned is a monolithic society that tolerates others, on the other hand, the immigrants do their best to assimilate, or at least not to do things that are in direct conflict of the norm.
I was born in China before coming to the States, so yeah, I get the eastern Asian conflicts better than rest of the Americans.
I also live in California, which can makes some interesting families. Two of my friends for example: one ethnic Chinese who married an ethnic Japanese, there are family members on each side that had fought on the opposite side in WWII, which makes family get togethers impossible; similarly an ethnic Japanese friend married another Japanese, whose families also fought on the opposite sides on WWII. In US, everything is possible, and one has to learn to tolerate much.

I want to tell you how it is in Japan. Japan accepts nothing foreign. We have almost no foreigners. Even koreans who were born here decades ago are not seen as japanese. It is almost impossible for non japanese to get japanese citizenship. Even japanese people who lived abroad for some years and come back have difficulties to reintegrate. some say japan is racist. but we have almost no crimes like that, conflicts are low. i like it the way it is here.
