About to pick up a 120. Pretty cheap. And I was wondering if anyone has cycled there tank with wild caught fish. I figure it be cheaper then buying some fish. Only need to get it cycledd so I can transfer my little monsters later

So wild caught fish don't suffer from ammonia or nitrite poisoning?
And not to mention the potential diseases they might spread to the tank...

Just get a bottle of ammonia

A bottle of ammonia costs that much, won't introduce disease in your tank, won't suffer the stress of cycling a tank, and will treat many tanks with one bottle.

Cycling a tank with fish without any sort of cycle aid is frowned upon here, just FYI. I like Seachem Stability, haven't had any problems cycling tanks with it and I've done it probably a dozen times (Seachem really needs to start sending me some coupons or something ;)).

It's a bad idea. You risk introducing whatever parasites that the wild fish are harboring.

As others have noted, there are many, many inexpensive (or free) ways of cycling a tank. I prefer adding a filter (and/or media from a filter) that's been used in a cycled tank to the uncycled one... Instant cycle :)

The only reason not to do that is potentially introducing disease from the cycled tank... Even if the fish aren't showing symptoms in that tank it can still be a risk. Obviously if you're sure the tank is healthy that's a great option.

ok i will just do the normal thing and drop some old media from my established tanks. guess i just wanted a reason to go to fishing at the lake again

Why don't you do a native tank then? Many of us have sunfish tanks that we love. I started with an uncycled tank, but used "Cycle" when I added fish. It worked pretty well.

Guess I'm not the only one with a smartass reply here
