Thoughts on fluval fx6

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I don't think the fluval 5/6's are as bad as some people make out. Ive had the FX5 running continuously since 2007 on a heavily stocked 100g tank (granted not a 180g). I clean it out on average twice a year and never noticed a massive reduction in the flow or microbubbles that everybody seems to moan about.

When I got it it was relatively new and lots of people said it wasn't well made and that it wouldn't last long, especially compared to Eheim. In all the time I've had it the only problem I've had is that I had to replace three fastening brackets as I have to say this is the only thing I don't like about it. The supplied media is poor but then we all seem to customise our own. I use seachem media and replaced the foam with 30ppi wedges to go round the sides. I've found it quiet overall and am pleased on it's running. I will say however it is a pain to clean especially the impeller with the small screws and this is where I feel Ehiem is far more user friendly in this respect

Having said all this if I could afford it I would get the larger the Eheims but then I'm a hopeless romantic with these, having had these on my first time back in 1985.

I have had nothing but problem's with Eheim products PERIOD over the years. I will never EVER use a Eheim product again.

I can see why eheim products are superior from an engineering standpoint- simple bottom up design, minimal bypass, high quality materials....

but I had nothing with issues with mine. I might give them another try down the road, but for now I'm on the fluval and sunsun bandwagon.
