then i dont see why it wont work. cuz as of now all he wants is low light plants. so that light would be perfect. so when he decides to get different plants then he can upgrade. so why upgrade to a more powerful light to grow low light plants?

I have the 48" model. It has 4 bulbs, two on each side. They pretty much meet in the middle.
Besides, I need to buy new bulbs if I am going to keep this one. So it may not be worth it to "try" and I will have to spend $40 on bulbs at least.
I get that based on that I have done it many times. 260W of CF lighting is not enough to grow vals in a 30" depth tank. Even 2 54W HO T5 bulbs are not enough.
