Thread like growth on my filter

I put some of the stuff under a microscope as said, and found small bi-valves swimming around in it. My scope cannot take photos so we will have to take my word for it. :)
Not easy to find any info on cause and cure so the search continues.

Still not sure why the stuff is attached to the filter and in the dark...

What I could see in the stuff is small discs inside a tube and then one or two free swimming mulluscs swimming around it. Spooky.
