I have to dig up the permit which I will do but I believe you are allowed to keep any fish caught within slot limits from the lake you catch them on and minding possesion limits. With this permit you are also permitted to sell native game fish. You do not need a permit to keep unprotected species.

When I find my paperwork I will update this thread.

I just bought a castnet abouta week ago for $16.00 at Wal-Mart, haven't used it yet.

me and my freind use it to get bait and natives some time. Last time we did it we got a 25 inch carp in the net

Sweet! I will look at Diseased Fish Mart for a cast net! Thanks.

most states it is not legal to catch game fish. there was a net ban placed about 10 years ago. bu tit is legal to catch bait fish and invasive species. there is also usually a size limit on ame fish ie not smaller thn 8" chec=k your local laws

as said earlier, throw nets are tricky. Even a good one can be hard to use. A seining net is sometimes easier. With one other person, you can cover a lot of area and scoop everything. It is especially good for streams and shallow pools where a thrownet might not work.It is also great in lakes or at the beach in the surf. Great for catching crayfish and minnow for feeders and I have gotten small gamefish of almost every variety.

What does a seine look like?

Its a big long rectangular shaped net. It has weights at the bottom of it. Two people stang at each end of it, and slowly walk for a while, holding down the bottom on the ground. Anything you walk into will stay in the net. When your done, you flip up the bottom and then look though your catch.

That sounds like an ob-seine way to catch fish!
