Throw net.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i have a casting net and a seining net, and the casting net is alot easier in my opinion.... sure you can catch more with a seine but its harder and takes more patience...... just my 2 cents

I seine your post...Thanks for the advice.

I'd recommend against the cast net - they tend to catch gill plates, etc. and damage fish. At least, thats my experience from catching baitfish for salt flats fishing...

I'd go wtih the seine, or even a length of the smallest diameter "super line" you can get at wally world (aka diseased fish mart), and a #16 or smaller hook. May need to buy a micro sized trout fly and remove the fly part of it. Mash the barb down good.

i would think hooking them would be more damaging than the net.

if u use a tiny hook and bend down the barb it is not bad 1 out of 10 might get torn up but it heels fast. cast nets do catch the gills but that heels to most of the time. get the smallest holes possible. go to cabelas or bass pro website and u can see both kinds. a cast net is what i use and is good for one person. a seine is difficult without 2 people and u have to get in the water and around here where the best fish are is also where the gators and moccisans hang out. ive pulled snakes up in the net a couple times and you remember your alive where your heart is pounding

I have used cast nets but it was mainly for surveys, bait, and the occasional lunch.

stop saying casting nets you yankees!!! jk
down here we use them (CAST NETS) mainly for mullet and shiners(baitfish), sizes range from the 5ft super yankee northern size to the true-mans 14 footer. this is radius measurements, so the 14 footer will cover about 28 feet of water if your good. id go with a 5 footer for the natives, their a cinch to throw.

Mine was a Hawiian 12' net with adustable weights.

iv used throw nets for catching feeders on my lake which is fine considering they were gonna be eaten anyway, but like a few ppl said before, they damage gill plates and fins. there great for catching small gar though. and a tip i learned the hardway....dont throw it into murky water. youll be diving down to untangle it from tree stumps and farming equiptment.

I use to use my fishing pole to catch sunfish had 10 in my 55gal., i did this when i was in junior high. Depends on what fish you want, just take the hook out nice and slow and easy =). Never used a net before but good luck.
