Tig wound help!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I removed his tank mate that I figure must of been harassing him to get him to tear himself up like this. I am doing a 50% water change and adding salt. Any other suggestions.

Only Had a 5" jag in with him. Covers on the heaters. He is scratched up on the other side but doesn't look like this side. He did not eat today either.

Is there any sharp, abrasive furniture in the tank that could have caused this? It looks superficial, not infected. I'd expect him to heal fast and fine. If it gets red = infected, may consider melafix or an antibiotic.

I think the jag bullied him out of his spot under the driftwood, the tig always was under it. I went down to the tank and the jag was under it and the tig was on the other side of the tank. Must of scratch himself on the driftwood. That is the only thing in there that could do it. I gave the jag away and the tig has a 75 all to himself until he heals up then into my 220. Hopefully salt and clean water will be enough.

Careful with the salt. Scaleless fish don't handle it as well.

I wouldn't put salt with a tig they don't like it

The one and only time I uses salt it burnt my tigs whiskers off completely

It just looks like it has grazed its self against the wood or rocks

As long as you water is clean and you have a uv you should be fine
If you don't have a uv why not

Agreed salt is terrible for cats, u can melt their skin right off...clean water alone will help him heal.
