TIG

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
keep the lights off on the tank. catfish like to hunt in the dark.

If you just moved the tig over to the new tank, it might still be stressed out. Also, weaning any kind of fish off of live food will take time. Be persistent with the choice of food you would like to feed it regularly and keep providing it with that particular food.

Leaving the lights off will help a little but if you have cover for the tig to hide under then you shouldn't worry about that.

Rubbing food in garlic will enhance a fishes appetite but its a bit too much trouble for the mess.

I would recommend turning up the heater to about 80* and keep trying to feed it every other day or so. Feed all your other fish normally and you might even see a feeding response when the tig smells the food in the water.

I had the same problem with a Redtail I shut my lights off and just left him alone for a few days I went to wal mart and found this stuff called bordeaux crawfish meat it's cheap and it's very health I think you should try it

Mines is 7" also in a 5x2x2 barebottom with 1 tank mate, it eats like a pig..do you have a lot of decor in the tank your housing it in?

Any pics of your setup? good luck with your tig.

You should just drop some earthworms in front of its face and see if it bites on those. Could just be a lazy cat fish thats how my TSN was lazy and clueless until i dropped some earth worms into the tank right in front of his face he would eat them.

Try cutting up alot of small pieces of shrimp...enough to make it easy for him to find and not have to look too hard. Feed at night time before bed when all the lights are out. You can scoop the left overs out tomorrow, you do water changes everyday anyways so it will not dirty your tank whatsoever. 30% water change everyday is a bit much in my opinion. In some cases that might prevent a fish to not eat because you're constantly disturbing the tank especially for a new resident. Sometimes a takes up to 2 - 3 wks for a tig to decide to eat in a new aquarium.

I've had this happen before. sometimes when I purchase fish they do well in the start then they go downhill. I had a beta fish and when I moved him to a ten gal. his health slowly worsened and he laid on his side for a few days and then strangely came back and now hes healthy. you got let him sink or swim.
