so ive been wanting to put a school of tiger barbs in with my cichlids in my 180. im not really worried about nipped fins but will the tiger barbs last with the cichlids? my main concern would be my red bay snook. i dont have any real aggresive cichlids in this tank.

They could be eaten by large cichlids but usually there fast enough to stay out of the way you may still lose a few so i'd go with a larger barb

You'd probably lose a few barbs, snooks are specialty ambush predators so it'd probably get a couple of them, but it would be fun to watch. ;)

the snook will eat some of them, since the barbs are not particularly big to begin with (compared to snooks). I've used them in cichlid tanks with no problems, but not with any cichlids with the kind of mouth as snooks

perhaps ill ditch the snook and a few other cichlids. i want to have my gibby pleco, giraffe cat, the wifes blood parrot pair(yeah i know, but their hers), and some different schools of small fish together. it will be interesting with fish from 2" to 2' all together.

you could try the big fish/little fish combo maybe with some Satanoperca and things like too, which mixes with what you already have

I say ... Try it! So you get 10 for $10.... it's worth the experiment! I'll probably try it too with my big tank when it's up and running.

If you've got any fish that can fit them in their mouths, they'll slowly get killed, more than likely at night time. I've known even female Convicts to take them out at night, even though they didn't (and couldn't) eat them.

Had a 2'' female con kill three tiger barbs of her size.

Tiger barbs are kinda fun though, I had some that would eat brine from my hand.
