By the way, does anyone know the scientic name for the Silver Datnoid? I keep finding inconclusive data on that one.

Thanks all

Read through this thread. It somewhat explains how to I.D and there are common+scientific names.

Daerron, do not listen to these people, the siamese tigerfish Datnioides is best kept in brackish waters with a specific gravity of < 1,005. depending on species; d, quadriasciatus, d. microlepis, and d.campbelli will do well in a specific gravity gravity range of 1.005 to 1.010.

by siamese tiger fish are you referring to D. Pulcher? i have never kept or even known of anyone who has kept a pulcher in anything but a freshwater environment I know that dats are commonly mislabeled or uniformly sold as siamese tiger fish. pls. clarify.

No Don't listen to this foo. Dats can be kept in Freshwater. D. microlepis are freshwater. Silvers and NGTs CAN be kept in brackish, but do not have to.

I keep finding inconclusive data on these guys.

Some say they only grow a foot, others up to two feet.

Since I'm thinking of getting a 125, I've been seriously looking at one of these to put in my tank, since I think they look fantastic.

Anyone know how aggressive they are, and or their growth rate?

Any extra knowledge is appriciated.

If I got one, my setup would be:

2 archers
1 Tiger Datnoid
1 stonefish
3 fw snowflake eels
1 dragon goby

A 125 will be good for a looong time for a young dat, but in many years they can possibly outgrow a 125, i know D. polota, and the thin bar commonly stay smaller buti have seen thinbar close to 16". as far as d. pulcher and d. microlepis these guys can get huge, the one in my avatar was measured at 55cm in 2005. as far as aggression, most dats can be aggresive towards other dats but aggression is more commonly seen in d. campbelli and d. polota. but do not be surprised to see it in others. but again the aggression tends to be between other dats than other fish. all though i have had dats pick on other fish. once you decide on what species you will get, let us know there are tons of members on here with personal experience w/ each dat and can give you more specifics. good luck. be warned though, dats are addicting. and its hard to get just one..lol

How many fish have you successfully kept in these set ups?

I agree with daeron, ive got one juvenile siamese tiger (Datinoid) about 3 inches in a 260ltr along with 7 monos (4 X argenteus 3 X sebae), 1 juvenile common spotted puffer, and one common scat. These are all brackish water fishes!- at the moment the specifid gravity is @ 1.005 this will gradually increase as they mature to near marine conditions (specific gravity between 1.018 1.023)...- the tiger fish is not a permanent resident as optimal conditions for this guy is mid to lower end brackish (specific gravity 1.005 - 1.010) -- i have a 200ltr down stairs with breeding pair of jewel cichlids, X 6 bumblebee gobies, X 1 knight gobie, and a figure 8 puffer. (specific gravity 1.005) the tiger will be fine in their-- the bumblebee gobies probably wont. (theres another aquarium {130ltr} that they can be re homed to)

siamese tiger fish - ' - datnioides'-- they can grow up to 18 inches (45cm)- but in captivity generally much smaller- around 9 to 12 inches (20 to 30cm)- they are relatively peacefull with other fish of similar size. -- they very predatory prefering live fish shrimp, small fish, earthworms. -- ill try and post some pics or clip of mine.
