Well I've had goldfish live for yrs and yrs in water at that temp, and mine are obviously healthy so, meh. I'm not particularly attached to them, they don't have names incase they get eaten. Anyways. Both clearmax and matrix help w/ the nitrates. I heard so many different things about the matrix, someone even said it killed their fish! But after hrs of research, only one person said that, leading me to believe it was not the matrix. But lots of people said it works to help remove nitrites, nitrates and ammonia. Others said it can't help, but never tried it for themselves, so can't really take their advice. But I got it for the ammonia and nitrate removal. The 2 things I need most :) As time goes on, contrary to the naysayers, it seems to be working(been testing every 2 days). Here's some links to some of the stuff I use:

Just checked. The nirtate color result is between 40 & 20. It was at 80. So obviously I'm doing something right:D Which makes me happy:D

I think people are wondering why you would squander such a monster tank on goldfish you could keep in a tub. It just seems wrong not to do it right by the cichlids.

Okay, cool. I have an empty biomedia basket and I think I may try that. And agree, there are so many cool things you can add to your tank besides goldfish :D

Hey, don't be dissin the goldfish ;) Think about how many people fell in love w/ fish thanks to the boring ole' feeder goldfish. They might be common, and really cheap, but they're still fun little fish. Goldfish may not be the sharpest cookie in the drawer, but it's part of their appeal. My first fish happened to be a pleco, named mr plecostumus(dad named him). But later, we added a fan-tailed goldfish, named willy(after keiko). I was like 2 when mr p came along, so I couldn't care for him. But boy was I excited when I got to feed my retarted little goldfish! Everyone ended up dying one waterchange day, unknown chlorine spike. That very same day, I learned that when you flush ur fish, it sends them to fish heaven. So many life lessons thanks to the boring old goldfish:D. Plus, my husband would murder me if I asked him for another tank. Being adorible only gets me so far;) Idk where i'd put it. Actually... there is still space in the master bedroom...:naughty: cichlids are pretty kick ***:headbang2

I am kind of surprised that no one is mentioning the fact that you have a turtle with the gold fish and the oscars. Three completely different species that need 3 completely separate environments. That is the biggest problem in my eyes. Not trying to put a damper on things but it can really pay off when you mimic the habitat of the species. Oh and I highly suggest a background! It would make the tank look so nice. =)

Just a little factoid. The 3 types of turtles I have are native to FL, and tiger oscars have been introduced there. They all live together in the wild, so I don't see a problem w/ them being in a similar controlled enviroment. And I am taking ur suggestion and I am gonna get a background, awhile ago i looked at petsmart all they had was small ones so I gave up, for some reason I never thought to look online! Duh... I was hoping for a 3D. But my tank is so huge (would have to buy 8ftx2ft), so it'd cost a small fortune. So the tape-on will have to do. Picked out some nice riverish ones. Gonna wait a few days cause I'm not 100% sure on which one. Some opinions would be apprecieated. Not too keen on the darker one. Looks cool, but I don't want to darken the tank too much. Any other rivery backgrounds you guys know of that'd look cool, i'd love to see them! Thanks! I'm excited to enhance my tank!

I Like the second one with the black back and roots. If you want to save some money you can paint your background. I did that and I liked the result. I painted it all black. Good luck with your decision. =)

It will get more orange tiger oscars have tiger blood j/k
