I have a 30g tank with 3 Tiger Oscars and 2 Turquoise Severums. The problem is, all the Severums do is hide all day. I have yet to see them eat. Both groups are approx in size to each other. Any suggestions?

Thanks

You have far too few fish for that monster tank i think... thats why they are so shy... get some arapaimas gigas in there and a few redtail catfish
(sorry, couldnt resist... dont follow my advice :D )

My Suggestion: Get rid of all your fish or get a 180 gallon aquarium. Your in over your head right now. All of those fish reach at least 10 inch's. Try some convicts for that size of a tank.

You need a huge tank for all those to be comfortable

And is it bad to keep a JD in a 29g?
if it is i'll take it back, cuz its still small

Unless all of these fish are young and only a few inches large, you definitely need a much larger tank ASAP! If this is only a temporary tank to hold juveniles for a few weeks, you may need to move the Severums to another growout tank. They could be stressed from being bullied by the three Oscars. Oscars will grow a lot faster than your Severums and that may cause the Severums to lose the opportunity to adequately eat and can lead to them being picked on by the larger Oscars. I don't know your plans or what size the fish are at this time, but a 30 gallon is not an option for even one Oscar. Hopefully this is just a temporary growout or quarantine tank and you have either one very large tank or two large tanks to house these fish in. If not you will be looking at stunted, stressed, bullied, and dead fish. BTW proper filtration and water changes are a must for Oscars.

any combos u recommend?
You might want to start your own thread to get advice on your stock. Posts written to help you could confuse the OP. That being said, try Convicts or some Dwarf Cichlids in your tank. Check the stickies for more choices.
