Hi guys! I'm new here at monsterfishkeepers and very excited to join the forum. Here is`my first question: I have a tiger ray 7 to 8 inches in diameter, eating very well and healthy. I've had him for two months now but he's still pale in color. The patterns aren't as defined as the one I've seen in pictures. He is housed in a bare bottom tank. I feed the ray twice a day on market shrimp and clams. This guy was imported straight from Peru. Why hasn't his color improved? Is it because he's in a bare bottom tank or will it just come out as he matures? I've read posts saying that a dark substrate will bring out the color of rays.

Thanks to those who reply!

if you want the colors to look great on flower or tiger rays they need to be kept on black sand

hi, I'm new here in monsterfish. I'm brazilian, and here we don't have so many literarture about aquarism! I also have a ray (motoro), and I want to put 2 silver arowanas together. Are there any problem?
Thanks! And excuse me for my poor english!

you should not put 2 together as they will fight... keep them in odd pairs..

\
for the tiger ray.. pm redtailfool he has one about that size

Black substrate helps. So does exposing the ray to light. I have no scientific backup for this but in my experience and other ray keepers, exposure to light seems to make the color stronger.

Its still a juvy at that age and very stressed so give it time , perfect water and a stress free environment. You will see improvements in due time.

i'm talking about any stingray but is it true that they drop their "stings" occasionally.
like drop as in, falling off.
