They shed a couple of times a year. Like what P.I said, the shed stinger still has the slime or protein based coating that is still venomous.

I play with the shed stinger from time to time and sometimes i get a funny feeling from my fingers. I can only imagine if i cut myself with it.

HAHA, be careful though...i guess

oh by the way, i heard that rays sometime get bacterial inections in their mouth because of the gravel. can you explain how they get infected. so is it better to not have any gravel in dA tank?
oh by dA way, would a leopoldi ray look nice with black gravel?
if i ever get a leopoldi ray that's what i'm going to do! oh i'm only going to put gravel in half of dA tank though...half, gravel, half bare; that's easier to clean dA tank!
or maybe no gravel if it's a hazard, so please explain this to me.

Why hasn't his color improved? Is it because he's in a bare bottom tank or will it just come out as he matures? I've read posts saying that a dark substrate will bring out the color of rays.

Thanks to those who reply!

Welcome to Monster

Dark substrate will help bring out the colour, but remember that your ray is still very young. What size tank are you keeping it in?
