I have bought a Shovel Nose catfish (10cms) a month ago.... he was eating very fine... i used to feed earthworms, blood worms and chicken pieces....
its been seven days it started avoiding the food...

i have placed it in 180 gallon tank

Tank mates : 10cms - Redtail catfish

I’d dose some Epsom salt 1 tbsp per 5g. Wait till it’s belly goes down. Don’t feed bloodworms and chicken when it can take a pellet w/o a problem.

it doesnt take pellets when i tried twice, and this pic was taken last week when it took feed.... now its belly became normal... help me out

I’d suggest giving it a couple of days and retry the pellet. It’ll eventually take it.

when it's hungry enough it'll eat, until then you can try stuffing some smelt with pellets to give him the right nutrition

From your very limited info above the only red flag is the chicken. I'd recommend cutting it out, as any non-aquatic feed.

The following is long but will help us troubleshoot your situation. We may only need one or two of these to figure it out but a priori we don't know which ones. The better you answer, the better we could potentially help. If you don't know an answer, you could say:
-- "I don't know (IDK)", or
-- "IDK what it means", or
-- "I don't think this is relevant".

Water Parameters

by a liquid test tube kit, such as the API freshwater master kit:

-- ammonia, ppm

-- nitrite, ppm

-- nitrate, ppm (before and after water change)

-- pH of tank and tap (before and after water change)

-- is the pH steady?

-- dissolved oxygen (DO) or description of aeration and stirring

-- temperature

-- is the temperature steady? (no significant swings?)

-- carbonate and general hardness, KH and GH, by a liquid test

-- TDS, ppm

-- or a general indication of TDS or water hardness and salinity

Water Source and Water Change

-- municipal or private

-- disinfected by chlorine / chloramine or non-disinfected?

-- if disinfected, how is water conditioned before water change?

-- average water changes (WC) on tank:

how much

how often

Tank

-- size

-- length, width, and height

-- time of running

-- if the tank is new:

how long was the tank cycled?

how was it cycled?

Stock (all fish, not just sick ones)

-- what species

-- how many each

-- estimated size of each

-- how long fish in question have been in tank

-- how long tank mates have been in tank

-- tank mate interactions, any aggression?

-- wild caught (wc) or captive bred (cb)

-- dewormed or not

-- treated against other parasites or not

Filtration

-- type: canister, HOB, or sump?

-- size

-- pump flow, gallons or liters per hour?

-- how often cleaned

-- how cleaned

Diet

-- what is the fish fed?

-- how much

-- how often

-- what are the tank mates fed?

Disease Symptoms, etc.

appetite

lethargic

bloated

swimming pattern

spots (where on body)

fuzzy patches (where on body)

excess slime

distorted features

color change

cloudy or swollen eyes

prior health history

-- of fish

-- of tank mates

were fish quarantined before being added to tank?

did the tank experience any previous disease out breaks?

-- what were they?

-- when were they?

medications used

Photos

-- close-ups of the fish and problem areas

Wow, the fish rescue frontliner ?, Ivan (I gather that's your name). Very impressive checklist. I'm quite certain my wife cannot come up with such complete list to give any room to doubt even if I'm caught cheating. I just copied and saved as my reference checklist shall I need it next. Very solid checklist.

Yeah, if I note any behaviour out of the norm, I'd want to rule out water parameters first as wrong parameters can end your pet's life fairly quickly if not attended to. General rule is are all the fishes not eating or just your new pet? But don't bother about answering my questions, get the list done, you'll have your answers. Hope all goes well with your new pet.

B BenjaminFranklin please don't be dismayed or let it overwhelm you. Just answer what you know and can and we'll go from there.
