Last night I was at my LFS looking around. My wife wanted a new betta. We picked one out, but before I left I wanted to look around a little more. I was just there Saturday, so I didn't expect to see anything to have changed... Low and behold a large tank full of 1.5" catfish that were labeled Jaguar-Red Tail Catfish at 15 bucks a piece. I talked to an employee and he said that they were hybids between a Tiger shovelnose and Red Tail cat. I am familiar with both those fish and was intrigued. I bout two of them. They have a red tail and white belly like a red tail cat, but their bodies are marked like a tiger shovelnose. The snouts don't appear to be as long as a normal Tiger shovelnose. They have the long flowing barbells that these fish share in common. I looked though my various fish encyclopedias thinking that they might be an actual species that just isn't seen much in the hobby. I couldn't find anything about it. So is this likely to be a legit cross between the two? I am very curious. These are very very nice looking fish. I'd post some pics, unfortunately I don't have the know how to do that yet. Maybe at some point I'll figure out a way to post a pic. Has anyone else come across this new "hybrid" yet?

I wish I could label you a pioneer, but it has been done. There are a few threads, some with adult pics. Try searching tsc x rtc. If it wasn't too expensive, it would still be a good pickup.

Wow! Thanks for the quick replies. And those pics you guys posted... AMAZING!!! I can't wait until mine get a little size to them. They look like the tail colors intensify. So what am I looking at growth wise? An inch a month?
