They get insanely big, Ive never had one but if my buddy had one that grew like .5" a week. When i was over at his house it would swim back and forth unless it had just eaten.
i had two that grew way way to big to fast haha so now i just have a juruense tigtinus and tiger shovel nose. i trained my hybrid to let me pet it but had to get rid of it when i shut down my tropical pond
yup you need a pond 1500 gallon at least to house one of those sucker I gave my up when he hit 2 feet huge and eats everything even his tank mate sometime
The hybrid can grow a lot faster than the others, and .5" a week is actually not that high ...my RTC is growing at 1" or more a week, and the hybrid under those same conditions most likely would grow faster than that.
your looking at a average max size of about 40" which should take roughly 4-6yrs to attain. They grow very quickly so you should be expecting it to grow between .5-1" per week until about 15" from than they tend to slow down SLIGHTLY until 24" after that they grow slow perhaps .5" a month though their appetite is rather large. You could expect to feed 6lbs of frozen fish a month. All large cats are active....atleast up to 26" (biggest I have") nomatter if they have just eaten or not. People who say they arent active just dont have large enough tanks for them to be happy in. IMO It has been said before but I will say it again. You will need a large tank. IF you have a 100gal now and just plan to upgrade in a few months I do not suggest you get one. But if you have a 100gal to grow him out AND a 400+gal for it to live in for about 1yr than go ahead but you will need at least a 12x5x3 tank for it in the future
