He'll outgrow it in a year or so try a Lima instead

Yep, these get x-large. I have a regular shovelnose in a 130g, this could work out for you. They do need a wide tank, but al least you won't need a 200+ gallons for one fish.

i have just got a 12inch one its in a six foot tank

hes he getting enough food? mine grew about 2" a week! for the first two months and then about an 1-2in a month after that

I feed him beef heart, mysis shrimp or krill every 2-3 days and until his belly is fat. I have never seen a fish grow 2 inches in week in my 10 years of fish keeping. Mine was 3" when i got em...and now he is abt 6".....maybe it was abt 3months i had em

I'm guessing you started with a four inch Tsn, your saying that you had about a 20" TSN in 2 months.......I smell

3" to 15" in about 2 1/2 months, yes -- he has slown down his growth and is currently about 18-20" in a years time - i only feed him 3/week now

any way you look at it the growth rate is very fast on these fish and growing 2in in 4 months is very slow for this species - what size tank is it in? i had a small tsn in a 30gal grow out tank and he grew much slower...the one i currently have started in a 125 then moved to a 180 and he grew much faster
