this is my first time posting on her go easy on me lol
:naughty:
soooo my dream fish is a Goliath tigerfish but im responsible enough to know that i can not afford a tank big enough for one
so my whole point of my post is to find out if there are smaller species of tigers that are available to buy

There are other species but oddly are not as readily or regularly available as the GAT is.The vitatus may not grow as big and seem to come around about as often as the goliaths.

awesome thanks!
i enjoy anything with teeth i love teeth on a fish the scarier the better
any others you would recommend that would be fine in a 150

Unfortunately, none of the Tigers stay small enough to keep in a 150G. I agree that Hepsetus odoe is a good alternative. I threw Exodon out there because it sounded like you had a small tank and they are mini monsters (pretty big teeth for their size) and also a pretty attractive fish.

I respect that you aren't getting a GATF because you know you won't be able to properly care for it; you're making a responsible decision.

The african tiger fish like most wild caught fishes have a season. Usually during the beginning of the year is when they are available and cheap. To a certain degree, fishes can adapt to the environment they are put in as long as it is not too small. It's like humans. If you are a rich kid grown up in a monster mansion and had to move to a 1 room condo, would that be crude and unusual punishment? It is the perspective that you conjure up in your head that makes it right or wrong most of the time. I think people that don't change the water or have improper filtration are doing something worst than someone growing a fish that have a potential of getting too big for their budget at the moment. I would believe many members here would be glad to give that GATF a larger home if you charge a reasonable fee to re-home it. Think of it as growing something rare for your brother that will appreciate it and able to take care for it properly. This is not true for all fishes. Some fishes such as the TSN or RTC are something that you have to think twice before taking on the responsibility. No one want them when they are big. Good Luck.
