hi im new to the site my name is kurt i have a 5 gal with 11 affrican cichlids a common pleco and a fether fin catfish.

i also wana set up another 55 with a shuvelnose catfish if any one hase any info on them and what not i would like to no more befor i buy one and have it die on me.

unless you have a much larger tank to put it in. As in using the 55 for a grow out. I dont suggest you get it sense it will outgrow your tank very quickly I mean it has the potential to get larger than a standard 55gal.

In a few years you will need a tropical pond for it to live in or at least a tank of 10x4x4 and a mega filter sytsem to cope as well or it will just be another catfish left in a small tank waiting to die. But if you do have plans to do all of this then great and good luck but you will need to start planning on upgrading as soon as you get it and always make shore you have a filter system to is to big for the tank as you cant have enough filtration

The shovelnose is a whole different ballgame, but 11 africans a cat and a pleco in a 5gal? Man I'm not trying to be a jerk but you need to do some serious homework and then either get rid of 99% of your fish or get a much much much larger tank. The filter you should be running on a tank with that many africans should be bigger than 5 gal (depending on the breeds of cichlids). Like I said before I'm not trying to be a jerk. I'm just trying to offer a bit of advice before you lose your fish.

my bad i ment 55 gal tank my fish are in my computer is a lil ****ed up

the one i found was about 4 inches i believebut i can also get them smaller
