Canada eh
I just recently heard from a manager at an lfs that Tigrinis has been banned feom export in Peru.

another supplier of mine said something about a localized ban.

has anyone here heard anything of that? Is there any ways of finding out if this is valid or not?

Do you guys know anyone who would be able to verify this?

I started digging around on this because there are several Tigrinus’ available in the states right now, including PFins and Exotic Fish Shop. I thought Peru was the country with lesser import/export restrictions to its bordering neighbors Ecuador/Columbia which lead to some shady practices in the hobby. But according to this group, Tigs are banned from being exported out of Peru so it must be a species specific ban. I’m unsure of there current numbers or how recent this ban is but I’m glad I have one!

Interesting. I have 3 that are coming to me here pretty soon, I hope they are not part of the illegally exported. The importer who they are coming from is who told me they are now banned and they have been sitting on them since before the ban apparently happened, So they are 5-6” now.

guess we will find out soon enough.

The price is going to skyrocket on the one's available for sale now. Beautiful catfish species imo along with the Juruense Catfish.

Not heard anything yet on the ban and cannot find any details online although I know the wwf are looking into exports of fish but they have much more research to do before I would expect them to do anything. Populations of villages live from fish export so it must be a government issue.

Panic purchase?
Absolutely. I have wanted them for almost 4 years now and I found out about a supplier who had 6 left from last years batch. I ordered 3 hoping to get the rest later, but by the time they came the other 3 were taken. ?

worst case scenario I got the fish I have wanted for a long time. lol
