I had several of them and I know alot of guys who had / have them. I don't think they are sutable for a tank. The most of them die beceause ( I think when they reach sexual maturety) go swimming in their tank like a mad man and swim them selves to death to the glass of your tank. I've heard and see this with maney Tigrinus. Also with Goslinea Platinema and Jurense.

PS I 've never seen it with Sorubim Lima strange?

Hi frank

what you say is my next thought why the tigs die for no reason
i have been told that tig migrate to breed maybe to cooler waters
the next point is maybe its just the females that are dieing for no reason

for some reason no matter were i ask ? people dont want to have a open mind on the suddern death thing with tigrinus

but i know you have great respect over the net frank and its good to see that even you frank have had the same problems keeping tigs (your water must be crap frank and you dont know how to keep fish just like me :D )

all of the tigs i have seen that die for no reason have the big hump in front of the dorsal fin and the ones without the hump seam to do better is it not possable that the hump is a way to sex tigs and the tigs with a hump are females and store lots of food in the hump as food back up for the migration and as they have no were to migrate to just die

A tig doesn't breed at 8'', Tikarmann. It breeds at 24'' and above. So once again your theory is put to shame. The whole "migrating to cooler waters" thing doesn't mean much because there are several(and I mean several) people that have raised tigrinus up to 36'' in captivity. I have an open mind about alot of things, but your theories are like saying all cars break down because the oil's never changed. Cars break down for all kinds of reasons...

i bought my tig at 9" back in may and now he is pushing over 15" not counting 5" plus streamers.....he was with 2 other tigs feeding on platties

i house him in 4x2x18"high with no light, temp around 80 and AC300 and AC500 at each corner for filtration........tankmate is 12" gar which never bothers him....he loves to hang out at the front right corner of the tank where the AC500 current comes out

at the begining, he fed on whole mp shell off every day.....i gradually moved him to 2 then 3 whole mps daily......then he got picky and stopped eating for about 2 weeks last month.......i guess he got tired of mp

i got him back feeding fine now....i cut up mp to thumbnail size and feed every second day....now he takes about 5 pieces of half inch mp every 2 days

i have no theories on why some tigs die for no reason

just letting you know that feeding smaller portions every 2 days for me makes a huge difference in my tig's feeding habbits....my tig is more active at nights due to change in feeding pattern

now i know you are full of crap a tig cant get to 36inch and you say you know several people who have got tigs to 36inch so lets see one i want a pic of any of the 36inch tigs

you may get a tig to 30inch in a tank if you are lucky

do you keep a tig ? if not shut up and go away

if you do keep a tig lets see pics of how well yours is doing as you no so much about them you may be able to share it with us all

you are so fast to say all of what im saying is wrong what is your key to getting all YOUR tigs up to 36inch please share

i will give you this qoute again just in case you missed it from a guy who i know is well able to take care of most fish yet he has lost several and knows others who have also lost tigs for no reason

all im trying to do is get to the bottom of why tigs die for no reason and share what i think and try to find out what goes wrong

and try to save people money big money on a fish that wont last long in most cases

but all i hear from you is your wrong your wrong

so come on big shot why do they die as you know everything let us know what makes you and your pals who get tigs to 36inch better than us

your tank is way to small 4x2x18high for a tig thats going to get to 36inch dont you think

he is in my grow out tank...plan to put him in 180gal soon

a 180 is still way to small for a 36inch tig dont you think

still waiting for pics of all of the 36inch tig your pals have or even pics of your tig will do

what happened to the other 2 tigs the one you have was kept with ?

a 180 should be ok for a tig that gets to around 24-26inch though

all the above posts are for you mate

as you seam to have all the problems with me trying to find out why tigs die for no reason

I got news for you Tikarmann, I do have a tig so you can sit back and keep listening. 36'' is an exceptionally large specimen and its unlikely they'll reach that size in captivity...I'll give you that. However, 20-24'' isn't unheard of, so what's the difference? You say all tigs are on their way to the freezer between 9 and 10 inches. You're obsessed with the "hump" on a tig which makes no sense what so ever and you refuse to listen to anyone. Then you come up with this wild story about tigrinus being tube bred with hormones, despite the fact that everyone tells you they're wild-caught. You've been told by more than one importer the facts and yet you act as if no one can hear or understand you. I don't have a problem with you, I just feel like you need to listen to the people with experience(and I'm not talking about me).
