Tigrinus issue

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
IME tigs and pbass are good tank mates but of course it doesn't mean your pair would be fine together. YMMV as they say.

Maybe the tig is still trying to figure out if the pbass can be eaten. Once he knows, he will leave it alone. Normally, there shouldn't be any other reason for a tig to attack a pbass.

I don't see any significant damage on the tig apart from minor abrasions. If you can easily, you may remove the pbass... or add more tankmates, unless that sponge filter is all you got for filtration.

Thanks ill add some more fish to spread the aggression ..the tig only attacks when the bass comes close to it..
As for filtration I have a canister running, and will add another one if I add more fish.

When my Tig first went in my tank the Ray gave him a bit of a hard time and he lost his streamers on his tail, made an area in the tank of egg crate where the Tig could come and go without the Ray and it soon healed up, once the tig was feeding well he now holds his own space and if the ray comes too close he nips at her eyes. The Ray is large at around 20 inches and the Tig is over 12 inches but under 18 inches.

I have heard they can be aggressive to things like Jurense but have seen groups of Tigs together.

Really? It still surprises me that people's experiences vary so wildly. My tigs fight each other and don't pay attention to juruense but the latter are smaller, like 14" tig vs 10" jur.

I do hope to try a tig community though eventually when I have a suitable tank for them. I am currently growing out 10 and would love to put them in one tank, if only they didn't bother each other too much.

I tried 2 and 3 in 4500 gal and they stayed as far as possible from each other.

Funnily enough my LFS had two tigs in the same tank and now you mention it I remember they were always at opposite ends of the tank.

Tigs dont get along with other tigs very well. Especially as adults. Perhaps keeping multiple as in 5 or more one would achieve a better outcome ans peaceful tank of tigs. That would be something! I presently have a tig over 2 ft and he doesn't tolerate any tankmate coming into his area very well. He thrusts his body around or pops at them to move away. At one time i had him with a lince cat slightly smaller then him together. Needless to say they tolerated each other as long as they didn't come into contact. Even at nite the lince did his best to keep away unless it was feeding time then all best were off!

I keep my Tig with four L14 plecos in a 300g. Massive current, he has adapted well to higher temps, i strive for high O2 and weekly 50% water changes. He has grown fast! I've noticed that if he's spooked u can get scratches from tank decor, he'll bolt and you'll see him cover 10' in a split second. Their eye sigh is poor, he chills all day but can be seen cruising all night looking for anything that fits in his mouth.
