No, it was bought from another fellow MFKer- I really think because our tanks were so much different played a part- plus like the poster above stated if not kept in proper conditions they won't live past a year... the guy had no current, or oxygenation in his tank.. and I had tons of oxygenation and current.. I added all this 2 weeks before getting the tig.

I always drip acclimate. Then once placed in tank the lights go off- and no food for 24-48 hours.

Did you measure the PH and the nitrate to your tank. Sometimes when you pull a fish out of a bad system or as system that does not change much water into one that is clean and fresh. The shock it will affect the fish in a negative manner. Also when you catch the fish you should of use a bag to catch instead of a net. I do notice that a net will stress and injure Tigs, much more then a bag. Sorry for the lost but don't give up on keeping these guys.

double ouch! Sorry about the loss.

Maybe one of the vendors that deals with them all of the time will have a great trick or two for those species.

I did not net the tig, the prev owner did. Or else, I would have used a bag of some sort, but I don't go netting fish from other people's tanks. Nor do I let people net my fish in my tank.

I am thinking that's what it could have been.. not so much PH shock, but more bad water qualities into good.

I pulled him after the tank right after he died, and it looked like septicimia- which I once dealt with when I got a pair of goldfish from bad water quality into my clean tank. I spent $40 to keep them alive.

The tig had the red on his underbelly, and getting it through his fins. And I know septicimia can lay dormant until triggered by a better water quality/stressers.

I'm not gonna give up though. I know I can take care of this fish, and next time I am going to get a tig from a vendor- from someone who knows what it really entails to keep them alive.

Losing fish/money is all part of the hobby unfortunately..

I also did notice a little red at the fins of mine when I first got them. Not sure if it is septicemia though.

I know red at the base of the fins are one of the symptoms of septicemia, but I did some research in the past and noticed that the red fins are very common when the tig not liking the water.

I think the whole shipping and transportation process is just really stressful for these sensitive fish in general. I hope they are much better once they settle down after a while.

agreed.

I had the same issue with the Jaguar cats I just got in back in Dec it took them a while to completely recover.

Gets free fish only to make money by reselling them. ^^ :banhim:

Sorry to hear about your tig dude. But that was an amazing deal you got on him! I got mine from nj for 300$ and he is only 5". Check out tangled up in cichlids I was very happy dealing with the guy.
