Which would you choose if both priced the same and the Tig around 4-5" or the Pictus around 7-8"? Please tell why you would choose that! Thanks, John

Two very diffrent Catfish, for two different types of tanks.

The Tigrinus will grow over 3 feet and keep growing. So you need to have very very big tank, or Pond!

And that is why I have a Leiarius Pictus, He will grow to around 24 Inch, maybe a little bigger if your lucky. He is perfect in my 570g tank. Its a great catfish, smart, relaxed and clean. Mine is around 22 inch, I got lots of pics in my gallery if you want to see.

If I had a pond, I would get both, but overall its really up to you on what kind of Catfish you can support for life.

I definitely hear what your saying! For life im sure the Leiarius Pictus would be a better choice! If I did decide, however, to get the Tig. There is a zoo a block down from my house with an amazing Amazon exhibit with a TSN, PBass, Pacu, Leos, etc that a Tig would look great in:naughty:

I've pretty much already decided on getting the Leiarius Pictus just because videos i've seen of them they seem much more active then Tigs, and more RTC-temperment like which I love!

Also, i've heard that L. Pictus is a solitary cat and wont do well with others, is this true?

I only have one cat, but from what I have heard is you can only keep one L. Pictus per tank as there very territorial. But I do have two sting rays, and he is just fine with those guys :)

I have read stories of people keeping the L. Pictus with other catfish with no problem. The said the the L. Pictus was very quick and would outsmart many other catfish for food.

Mine eats from the top and bottom of the tank. Also when I first got him, he just hide for the first month. Then after that he was fine, they grow very very fast. I raised mine from 9 inch to 22 inch in around 9 to 10 months.

Best of Luck, he is a Great Cat!

Thanks! Appreciate all the information! I may pick up a marble pim and raise it with it and maybe they'll work out fine!

if somebody doesnt mind, what did they pay for their sailfin pim? i found one at my LFS for $130 and he wont go any lower.

thats a pretty good deal, It cost me around $225 in Germany .

Also my bad I said the Tigrinus gets over 3 feet, its not normal that he gets over 2 feet around the same as the L.P. for some reason I was thinking of TSN, my bad but just wanted to let ya know.

It looks like a good deal IMO!

Cool! Yeah, im bringing in my red wolf fish because he has killed a marble pim and a retic ray already, and trading him in so ill get the LP for about $100, I dont wanna risk having the wolf fish around with the LP. Both the LP and Tigrinus are the same price, but i like active and social fish. Alot of the tigrinus i've seen stay in the back and are very skittish! Where as the videos of LP's that i've seen have been coming to the top begging for food and such!

go with tig IMO
