i currently have a 55 setup with 8 clowns(2-3inches), black synodontis(4-5inches), Red Leopard S/F Pleco(5inches),Frontosa(2-3inches),yellow tinfoil(4inches), and a 4 inch horseface loach. i was wondering if i could pick up a gold nugget pleco for this tank or would it be too much fish?would the two plecos fight as this is my only tank i wouldnt want that. also does any1 know how big tigrinus catfish get?how aggressive are they/will they eat my clown loaches etc. Right now i dont think id put a tigrinus in there unless i got rid of some of the other fish.
what id really like to do is keep my 8 loaches buy some type of catfish maybe some synodontis petricola's or some pictus's. does any1 kno if pictus's are as susceptble to ich as clown loaches? or jus get a tigrinus or 2 or just get some frontosa's and maybe some calvus's.idk. any suggestions on tankmates keeping the size of the tank in mind would be greatly appreciated.thanks again. o yah is 2 plecos 2 much??????

tigrinus get over 24". Way too big for a 55 gal. I see a definite problem with adding more fish to your tank. Sounds like it is pretty cramp right now. All of the fish you have in it right now still have some growing to do. Imagine how big your fish will be in a year then decide if you wish to add to the tank. I would personally be affraid that any filter you have on a 55 gal would be too small to handle that kind of bioload unless you had a wetdry sump.

your post is pretty confusing....

first of all, your fishes are quite varied, and requiring a very different water conditions.

second, you can definitely get another pleco, just make sure each has it's own hiding place.

thrid, a tigrinus can get over 2 ft long, so you definitely would need to upgrade your tank. it'll also grow much faster than your clown loaches, so yes, it's possible the tigrinus will attempt to eat your loaches.

it sounds like you're trying to setup a more "african rift lake" tank, so why the hell are you buying yellowfin barbs, loaches and plecos?? (and a tigrinus?????).

stick with synodontis cats and african cichlids.

Theres nothing wrong with liking differant kinds of fish. I've yet to see the law that states that you can't mix fish from differant areas....HOWEVER M/L has a very valid point...when the fish require differant water conditions to thrive then the best you can do in a mixed tank is a 'one size fits none' sort of situation and none of the fish really have prime conditions. It's better to set up more than one type of tank.

I will agree with that, the whole, when they all demand different water conditions. I didnt really read the whole thing I just saw that, why the hell do you have yellowfin barbs. lol

There is an easy way to solve it though... get more tanks! lol, big ones

I once took three weeks off and traviled to the far reaches of Tibet searching for a wise man who could tell the secret to life...

...He said....

"More and bigger tanks my son..."

i just found out that the tigrinus is illegal in hawaii oh well itll save me money..but i now know that if i setup any new tank ill check the water requirements of the fish im choosing.(im a newb)and i think i want a brackish tank next.with noids archers monos and a targetfish.
