I just came back from 99 Ranch Market (an Asian supermarket) and they were selling live tiliapia for $1.29 per pound. I would guess that as long as you bring a big bucket, they'd have no problem selling you a live fish. Just tell them that you want to kill it yourself at home so it's even fresher. ? Plus, it saves them from having to kill, de-scale, and gut the fish themselves.
