Seriously I dont know how many Doviis I have owned and each one has been a dissapointment-not one reached near the size or aggression I have heard or read of.
I rescued a 14" butti and put it in my 240 with 8 mpimbwe frontosa (6"-14"). I have seen no aggression from him what so ever but i am sure it's there when i'm not watching. I have been worried about the butti raging on my fronts but so far so good.
Butti will murder the dovii once it reaches the right size.
Dovii's are capable of doing a lot of damage to fish, but they never have the confidence! I've seen 2 inch buttah's beat the snot out of 4 inch jaguars!
In my opinion it would work! 600 gallon tank with butti's and dovii's is like putting 4 convicts in a 125 by them selves!
I have a buddy who lost his 21" Dovii to a 16" Butti. The Butti literally ripped the entire gill plate off the dovii. Prior to that moment, they had been living together with others in a 900g and never took issue with each other.
I wouldnt do it. A pair of dovii will kill everything in the tank when they get ready to spawn. I would keep the dovii. They are way better showfish than a Butti. Personally I wouldnt mix african cichlids with central american cichlids.
When mixing any cichlids there is a risk. You are taking two aggressive, solitary and territorial animals and putting them in a space smaller than they would ever mix in, in the wild you aren't going to get any sure answers.

This thread was started in 2008!! All of you guys giving advice to the OP... I don't think he is still debating this topic, lol. I'am wondering if it worked or not though???
