I wouldn't mix SA's with CA's. CA's are as a whole nastier with the exception of Red Terror's. Do not mix a jag ( or any parachromis for that matter) with an Oscar that's a very bad idea even a female jag will rip a Oscar a new one. You need to stick to more mild mannered fish if you going the Oscar route. Don't under estimate a salvini those are some nasty guys too.

Chocolate was a good suggestion. Firemouths, severums, and convicts are all good Oscar tank mate candidates. Vieja is another cool somewhat Oscar like fish to keep with good colors.

I had a butti in a 55 gallon then I moved him to my 5000 gallon aquarium with my other large american cichlids. Can't really ever see him and he is hidden most of the time. Probably in fear of the other beasts that are lurking around.

They are all hype if you are looking for badass fish and are too much of a pain in the ass to house with other smaller good looking fish.

Butti arnt boring IMO, they are awesome. They are as much fun as a Midas or Rd just a little meaner with the appetite of Oscars. My old 14+inch would eat anything from peas to mussels and whole fish. Was very outgoing, he just started killing wish once he was boss inch 12 inch Midas that he grew up with....

He used to fight with a red terror when they were growing together finding their place but was pretty mellow until he was boss...

The videos Justarn linked-

Ive seen those on youtube before at some point while either looking into festae or Buttis dont remember which, but i showed them to a friend... He said "shouldve stopped them from fighting"...

I wouldnt even try to touch that Butti without chain mail gloves... They are crazy

They didn't fight like that all the time, it was a hierarchy thing. If any of my fish start to cause serious damage I split them as any respected fish keeper would, it's part of keeping aggressive community's whether it be cichlids or atf, wolfs, aros and rays....
