my LFS has had some of these lovely little fish in QT for some time..and they just came up for sale.

they say they are rare and no longer imported..

few questions

are they rare?
are they endangered?
If i get some and breed them would there be any interest in them?

thank you!

anyone?...

would any one be interested in helping me breed these and keeping this lovely little fish going?...

does any one keep them or have experience keeping them? im cleaning out a 29 gallon for a pare or two..maybe even putting my 40 tall back up.

some feed back would be nice.

yes...iv done lots of research looking for personal experience at this point.

I have a couple right now that have paired up but have yet lay eggs. Im under the impression that they are relatively easy to breed but have not had any luck yet. I think people that know what they are will always want them - great fish, very entertaining, look great when they color up, can be kept with new worlds. Ive seen them in a milwaukee fish store for smaller trio's $12 and individually medium sized $8 a piece if that helps with there value. I would go for it.

awesome..thank you for the feed back, my LFS is selling them for 14$ a pare and they are only selling them in pares in hopes of getting people to breed them.

Im thinking im going to get them and keep them in a tank of there own.. i have a 40 tall i just replaced with a 65 tall that I will set back up for a pare or two.

Great find man. I think regardless of demand you should really try and breed them for the sake of the species and to help fellow fishkeepers establish a tank bred variety rather than catching wild fish. It will be the noble thing to do. Why not get 2 pairs for future breeding to keep the gene pool diverse and prevent stunting/inbreeding/weak fish.
According to fishbase the females are sexual mature at 25 mm SL, making them the smallest tilapiine known.

But you've probably read this all already, so enough of me talking...

Good luck buddy
