I posted this in the DIY section, but I never seem to get many replies there so I'm going to re-post here :) Is there any way to make a background out of tiles on the inside of an acrylic tank? One side of my 140 is blue acrylic and I'd like it to be black(or slate). Is using tile a good idea? If so how would I go about gluing it to the tank? Thank you!!

You can use normal aquarium silicone on the tiles to stick them in place. My brother does tile work and has helped me with tile in my betta tanks. It works pretty well. The only down side is having to scrub the joints when you clean with a brush. Other than that its a pretty good substrate/background in my opinion.

why don't you just use that black sticky vinyl? wouldn't that be just as effective and easier to maintain?

Acrylic and silicone don't really bond, but it does kinda. It was a pita trying to get all the silicone off after I replaced my bulkheads, I think it would hold enough

I think it look cool, just clean all the bonding surfaces spotless, and silicone them on.
