Ive seen it on here before. Is there a certain type of tile that is ok for use in ray tank or are tiles in general ok? Im asking because i removed my sand and the glass bottom is causeing my arrowanna to get drop eye. I wanna resolve this before its too far gone. If anyone has experience with tiled bottom please chime in. Do you absolutely need to grout it or can i just place the tile on the bottom of the tank and not have them come up with the rays circulating the tank? Thanks

You can just use regular ceramic tile and cut it to fit. The only problem with not siliconing them is the crap that can get stuck in the cracks and openings

ya i was thinking crud would get under them which would in turn be a pain. so ceramic tiles don't have any negative effects on water perams? maybe certain types may? thats what I'm trying to avoid. don't wanna come home to my rays and other pets dead because of stupid tiles. lol.

why do you believe the glass bottom is the cause of the drop eye?

Bare bottom is not what is causing your Arowana to get drop eye, regardless pretty much all ceramic tile is fine. I like to soak it a day before I put it in a tank.

Did you remove sand? If you did you seriously affected your bacteria cycle and that is causing the drop eye in you're arrow. Check your water parameters.

I did remove all sand and had zero issues in bacterial load. I have over kill biological filtration. Water perams are perfect no issues there.

So ok then i will use tile to give a more appealing look to the tank. The drop eye i cannot understand the reasoning for this. Ill do some research in the arrow section of the forum. Thanks all.

I used glazed ceramic tile in several of my ray tanks without any issues (look up some of my old threads with pics). Just cut them to fit the bottom - no glue no grout. Didin't have any issues with water quality or waste getting underneath the tile. Make sure you used smooth glazed tile and not rough or porous tile. Algae grows into the porous and rough tile making it hard to keep clean. When I moved I painted the bottom of the tanks before setting them back up so I don't use the tile anymore.
