I have been toying with the notion of tiles as well. I am looking at it from a heating stand point. The tiles would serve as a thermal mass once warmed. Hopefully creating a more stable and evenly temp'd environment..... -FM
If only I didnt read your gestation thread FM LOL, now im tempted to just wrap my tanks in insulation to save some money thus having no point tiling the bottom since I wouldn't be able to see through the side panes anyways LOL. To tile or to insulate...such a hard decision...FireMedic;3680004; said:I have been toying with the notion of tiles as well. I am looking at it from a heating stand point. Most of my rays are in the basement (unheated), with the except of my q-tank which is in the kitchen so I have a close eye on it. Insulating my tanks would probably save me a TON of money. Maybe ill just tile it anyways and leave a side panel uninsulated and probably wont be insulating the top either anyways. I guess I'll still tile my q-tank first to try it out, see how it goes.koop171;3680370; said:you could alway tile it and insulate all sides but the front panel. I don't see why you would want to cover the tank completely unless you were simply using the rays for breeding or you have them in a unheated room in cold weather.

Looking to tile my 75 q-tank first, so Im thinking money is not an issue for this tank. I have about $100 to spare for tiles so Im hoping thats more than enough LOL. I'll head to home depot to check out the tiles mentioned first and then make a decision. Also need to see how thick these tiles are, I wouldn't want them cracking the bottom of my tank LOL.Ade;3681991; said:If u want it to look really good, use a natural stone tile, say granite , but with a honed (polished) finish. Super smooth and very shiny.
For economy, porcelain tile.
