Hey ppl.. Not sure if i'm posting in the right place but thought this would be the best option.. anyways.. i'm in the process of building a pond.. rather a large tank.. above the ground.. concrete.. and a glass viewing area.. the dimensions are roughly 14' X 10' X 4'.. about 3500 gallons when 85% filled with water.. I've been planning to tile the inner surface of this tank.. any ideas on what sort of tiles i should be using? and what would be safe for the fish? .. i dont want a swimming pool blue.. would prefer black.. but again over time there would be salt build up on the tiles right.. please recommend the safest alternative for the fish and somethin that can overcome the salt build up.. and oh the tank would house my Silver Arowanas, RTC, Pacu and oscars.. Please let me know.. cheers.. :)

I believe you can use almost any type of stone but you need to adherer them with something fish safe.

GE silicon i should affix them to the sides, as long as your not walking on the tiles they should stay put.

What he means is to use the silicon to attach the tiles to the sides. I think any fish safe rocks would work in tile fourm.

Silicone will not adhere to the underside of tile, nor to the concrete.

How much direct sunlight will this tank/ pond get? Black tiles will heat up a lot in straight sun.

I don't understand your worries about salt? You have fresh water fish, there shouldn't be any salt in the water?

Hey sorry for the delayed reply..

true the tiles can not be fixed with silicon onto the concrete surface.. will probably use white cement or cement to fix the tiles onto the surface.. i've attached a couple of pics so you can get an idea on where the tank would be.. the tank will not get direct sunlight.. most probably indirect and its right beneath trees..

And to prevent leaves from falling in, i plan to build a roof like this above the tank..

The point about salt is.. we here in india can use ground water.. so i have like a bore well and i use water from there.. its not treated or anything.. so there are certain amount of minerals and salts in there.. they screw up my glass tanks..but i have to live with that.. now i seriously wonder if i should tile it or jus cement finish it and leave it :)

let me know what you ppl think cheers..
