Time for a new heater

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Old thread resurrected. The Aqueon Pro I had died on me about a week ago. Green light was off and the tank was as 72. Went out and bought an Eheim. It's been 4 days now, and it will not stay at temperature. I have it set to 79. Yesterday it was at 76 and off. When I touched it, it immediately came on and heated to 79.

Work up this morning at it was still 79. Went to check at lunch time, back to 76 and off. Reach in and touch it, and it turned on and started heating.

My other tank, which has no fish, has an Eheim in it set to 79, and it's currently at 96 degrees! Yikes!

So, the one Eheim is getting replaced with an Aqueon Pro this afternoon (Cause, at least the Aqueon lasted 2 years), and the other needs to be exchanged under warranty, though I don't know if I want another Eheim, consider 2 have failed on me in last few weeks now.

Interesting and thanks for sharing. I've had recent issue with my Ranco controller, and, although it's working again, I am a bit paranoid and thinking of replacing my titanium with heaters with their own thermostat. Any controller that I get beyond a Ranco, well, it's just a matter of time.

Heaters with built in therms will at least get me some added reduancy I suppose. After the money spent in this hobby, I'm willing to spend 5 times more to get something that will last longer. As it is, I was looking at Jager, but may consider Aqueon Pro...it's a toss up really...
