I thought about doing goldfish, but they have always been super messy and i want some cichlids. I like plain goldfish when the get huge though, would that even be an option with the catfish and oscars. My fish store has all the cichlids mentioned in this thread.

Your lucky man the stores near me would never know what any of these fish are forget about having any available

A bunch of eartheaters! Or chocolates. Or parrots. (By parrots, I mean Hoplarchus psittacus - http://www.cichlid-forum.com/profiles/species.php?id=518) Or maybe several large schools of Rainbowfish!
I was going to suggest if you lived in a warm climate to donate it to someone with a pond... but you must live in the coldest part of the USA - LOL.
