Went to the surgeon yesterday and got scheduled for what is going to be the third (first two were 2/13/09 and 4/15/09) of many knee surgeries to come. My surgeon (not the same one as last time) is going to perform a scope on the right knee and try to see what is going on and to see if he is going to need to do a partial knee replacement to hold me over until I get old enough to have a full knee replacement. Once he figures out what is going on with the right knee he will start on the left knee.

The surgery is scheduled for 3/22/10 and he doesn't know how long I will be off work this time. Woohoo...

i have a unispacer in my knee.. also to hold me over until old enough to do full knee replacement since they only last about 15 years.. so maybe your doctor can look into the unispacer.. it was suppose to last a couple of years.. i have it 5 years now.. good luck.. i hope you recover well..

Good luck with the surgery, and I'm sure we are all rooting for a quick recovery!

you have to be a certain age for surgery to help you get better?

that sucks, its not been that long since you posted about the last one. good luck with this one mate. let us know how it goes.

Thanks everyone, here is the link to my past surgery. I'm really, really hoping that this one goes better.

The majority of the damage to my knees came from racing bikes (both road and mountain) for eight years or so. I finished my right knee off riding dirt bikes. I tore the meniscus. Once the surgeon cut into me he went ahead and performed a lateral release and removed a bunch of arthritis. Once that surgery was complete the surgeon told me that a lateral release would help relieve the constant pain in my left knee as well. Unfortunately I have been in constant, and much worse pain, ever since I had the surgeries.

Here is a pretty picture showing the swelling after the last surgery on my left knee.

Knee replacements are typically only good for 20 - 25 years. Typically you can only have two of them during your lifetime per leg. If the second one wears out before the rest of your body does there is a good chance of needing an amputation.

I worry that your other doc might have messed you up a bit. I had the same thing done last year and was walking a few days later.

Me too but no need to worry about the past, just need to get it fixed now. :D
