A little compition helps thier bond be stronger, maybe a couple days to reinforce the new pairing.

She just recently changed to that dark black and white color, the male still chases her from time to time as well

Ya sounds like a fresh pair, or still working on it. When you see a male and female defending an area, cleaning/digging a pit you will know they are bonded. I would give it a bit more time. But the color change is an indication that she is receptive to him.

This is my old pair when they first started pairing up.

Some months later. I never did see eggs. But they had catfish and plecos with them so assumed they got consumed. The male EB is with Yankyjack now and sired many batches of fry since.

Love it, alright I’ll keep an eye out, appreciate it. They definitely are the two dominates of the tank always front and center chasing anyone near

Well that is another good sign. If both are chasing fish away from an area. Looking like you may have a pairing.
If you have an extra tank to keep the extras for a bit. If I didn't keep my extra female devil, Casper wouldn't have a mate and batch of fry now. JDs can be just as aggressive and kill off a mate. So if you can don't rush to rehome. Fish are notorious for destroying our well laid out plans.

A couple days more should help build what looks like a pair starting to bond.

In no time you will have a cloud of fry and wonder....... what am I going to do with a these guys....20181127_193135.jpg
In a couple months I get to find homes for a couple hundred devil's......

Well I have a pleco a catfish and a clown loach in there, I can move the pleco to my hospital tank but the catfish and loach would crowd it so let’s hope the parents can fend them off

My 55gal tank has HRP's that breed it it every three weeks or so. The other fish pick off the fry at swimmers stage. The HRP's eat thier fry (swordtails). So every one gets to do thier breeding and my tank don't get overran with fry.
