time for rehousing?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My 55gal tank has HRP's that breed it it every three weeks or so. The other fish pick off the fry at swimmers stage. The HRP's eat thier fry (swordtails). So every one gets to do thier breeding and my tank don't get overran with fry.
well these two lovers have started doing a interesting dance now, i think things are starting to heat up

Yup looks like they paired up, should get a spawning when they decide the pit is done. This time frame can very. First go for Devil's was overnight, second go was three days.

That's not the spawn point. It will be close by tho. The pit is for the fry right after they hatch. They feed off of a egg sac first couple days while fins form/ability to swim is learned.

We call this the wiggler stage.

i was imagining they were gonna lay on that vase since the male dusted it clean earlier and dug a pit at the bottom of it, but before they chose there home i was thinking they would pick the pvc tubs since its easier to guard

Only time will tell at this point. We can give them things and hope for the best. They do have a way of laying waste to our well thought out plans.

If the eggs are on an object that is removable can take them out now. Just make sure there is good flow over the eggs so they don't go bad, you have to replace mom and dad in fanning the eggs. Could wait for three daysish for them to hatch then just suck them out with a syphon hose.

I would leave the first couple batches with them. Will lose a lot but they will learn how to care for them. Then you can just pull them as swimmers. Will help the mom out a lot. As soon as the fry are gone dad will want to breed again. Mom needs some time to make more eggs. Tending wigglers/eggs giver her time to do this.
