ok im having a hard time figuring what my next tank should be. currently have a standard 150 72x18x29 and dont think im gonna be able to go huge for a few years due to house size so i was wondering if i should go 180 or 240. my silver is close to 18" and i know a 180 will get me by for a long time but im guessing that a 240s length will get me by even longer even though its still only 24" wide. i have some pbass and a spotted gar as well so i really am thinking the 240 will be much better. theres a huge price diff of around 800-1000$ between the two so what would you do? eventually im hoping for atleast 8x4x2 at the smallest for life.

I think a silver aro will do fine in a 6x2x2 180g until it is around 27-28". Granted the 240 would be much better I don't think it will really extend your time table. I would figure about 3 years from now for your silver to reach that legnth. Ofcourse there are cases of much quicker and slower growth too, so it could be little difference of time.

yeah but with the other fish the added room and water volume should be taken into account dont ya think. forgot to add i got a 16" ck as well. 17" plec too

This is true, although at least these fish do occupy different areas of the tank. I can tell you though two 24" plus silver aros are quite cramped in a 180g, often times running into one another. Also I don't really have any experience with the CK, how would it do once it gets 24 plus inches. Also doesn't the CK need hiding places which would take up swimming area?

i really dont know what a 24"+ ck will do, dont really see em that large often, i dont know where they all gowhen they get this big. the ck can turn on a dime though, at 16" he can turn in like a 4-5" space.the ck hides alot during the day but at night zips around the tank like a bullet. the larger ck's get the less they hide but yeah generally need something, even just a large branch, to call "home". im thinking the 240 would be in my best interests, and if i need to seperate some fish for whatever reason, 8ft will give me some better options to do so over 6 ft.

Maybe you could find a 300g wide 96" x 30" x 24", I know Glasscages.com makes these. This was my plan for my next tank until I found the 360g I got. Thing is though I'm a bit closer to glasscages (they usually have tanks stocked here in Denver) so shipping would be outrageous.

This size tank would give you lots of time to monster tank done.

too big for my space. its either a 96x24 or a 84x30(tank is right next to front door so 96x30 would be people running into tank at door). and everywhere i get quotes is 3200$ local or 1500$ + 1500$ shipping:WHOA: anything over 30 wide wont work either:nilly: saving for a new house and plan on moving in 1-2 years and i know by then i will find a huge tank but just want to provide the best i can for now. either will work for me(180 and 240) but im thinking the 240 is better, and well BIGGER:headbang2 lol

Well sounds like the 240g is you best bet then. Gotta love the 8 footers, can be alot of space between fishes if needed.

i would say a 240 since you have all of those.

not to derail, but where does glasscages stock tanks in denver? maybe I cold get a 240 there, but i've heard bad things about their quality.

In december of 06 I had inquired with them though email about a tank purchase. On there website they stated they had tanks stocked in a warehouse here in Devner. There was still a delivery/pickup fee of $200. I do not know if this is still available.

EDIT: Just took alook at their website and the closest point for delivery/pick up is Albuquerque, New Mexico and the fee is $150 for a 240g long tank only.
