Time to recharge the Purigen.

This is my first time recharging the Purigen in my tank. I had checked the bags on a regular basis but they looked fine. After looking inside them I found out differently, the Purigen is filthy! I guess it's doing it's job.

Anyway, here is the Purigen when I took it out of the mesh bags.

Next I mixed one quart of bleach with one quart of water.

Next step was add the purigen to the bleach water mix.

Now I get to set around and wait for 24 hours.

sWEET I love me some purigen. Ive run 500 ml of it on my 90 gallon bichir community and its still pretty fresh after 3 months or so.

I always use Seachems bleach proof bags to encase the purigen in, It makes recharging very simple...tried it with loose material once, it made quite a mess.......

I was going to keep it in the bags but I wasn't sure if it would clean it as well. I'm glad to hear that it works though, will make it easier next time.

Oh hell yeah man gotta go with "the bag" If your using purigen. Cmon buddy this is 101

Actually I am experimenting with using the Purigen in the Monster Reactor without putting it in a bag now. It seems like it will filter through more evenly this way. So far it's working pretty well but I've only got 500 mL in it this time. Previously I believe I was using way more than necessary since I was using 2,000 mL.

i use a liter on my 180 but i haven't recharged it yet... good thread ill wait for your results before i clean mine, i also dont have the bag.... i went out and bought the same cheapo bags as you did from petsmart .. wonder how they hold up against bleach

Just rinsed the Purigen a few times. Then I added water and Prime. I think it's looking quite a bit better already.

Now I just get to wait until tomorrow to rinse it again then soak it in some water and buffer. I know it only requires this step to soak for eight hours but I'll be asleep in eight hours.
