I usually feed my fish at 5am and leave the lights on until 9 or 10pm. I do this since both tanks have live plants and if I turn off the lights while I'm at work they'd only get about 5hrs of light. Can anybody recommend a timer that i can setup for 30 minutes of light in the morning then turn back on around 1 for the rest of the day?

Any common timer will do?

Just go to a hardware store, you can set them for 30 min. intervals if you wanted.

+1 it will probably be cheaper at a hardware store rather than a pet specific one too.

Make sure you get one with a 3 pronged socket. Even if your lights currently have a 2 pronged cord, if you ever get new lights they may have a 3 pronged cord, or you can use it for any appliance around the house if needed.

I use this one: http://www.amazon.com/Sylvania-SA11...C226/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1308536259&sr=8-4
It has the 3 pronged socket, can be set to 15 min intervals, and has an extra non-timed socket so it actually adds an outlet.

Thanks for the advice, I was hoping to find a power strip with some timers and some constant hots since my 125 has 9 devices that use power but I guess I'll use a regular timer and plug a small power strip into it so that I only need one timer for both light fixtures.

I use the fancy power strips found at Petco/Petsmart. I don't remember if they have multiple setting options. But... you could always plug in a cheaper time into one of those and make it fully adjustable.

Go to Home depot they have a heavy duty didgital timer with a plug in on each side. I have several of them. I don't have to touch anything.
