Tim's planted tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Very nice but what i do not understand is why everyone has neon tetras in planted tanks ??
Is it tradition ?:nilly:

Could I load this type of tank up with Mollies?

Yes, this is a wonderful tank. Good job! I would list your specs(filter, lighting, tank size, plants, and fish). It will help with peoples critique. But overall looks beautiful.

Okay so I guess I should get round to giving specs for the tank. I set this tank up as cheap as possible but also wanted results.

The ideal tank should have good t5 or halide lighting and CO2 but I didn't have the budget for that.

My number one tip is to buy a good plant substrate like ADA Aquasoil and buy plants that will do well in your kind of setup.

Tank - 32x14x18H
Filtration - Fluval 105 (a 205 would have been better)
Lighting - Arcadia OT2 2xT8 tubes (Over tank units give more light than tubes with reflectors IMO)
Substrate - ADA Aquasoil (fine grade) 2" deep at front to 4" at the back.
Decor - Small rocks and two pieces of redmoor wood.

Plants -
Eleocharis parvula (hair grass) - carpeting on the bottom
Hygrophila corymbosa - rear left
Java fern - attatched to rocks rear centre
Java moss - tied to branches
Crypt species - varied species arrange around the tank

Fish - Cardinal tetra, Emperor tetra, Corydoras and Amano shrimp

Thanks lol. I used cardinal tetra, they are nicer. I used them because my mum likes them. If it where up to me I'd have a huge shoal of Emperor tetra or red phantom tetra.

looks like a cute little tank!

i've recently had to give up my 120g (new house and lack of space) and i'm thinking in a couple of months getting a tiny tank and just having it for landscaping and little fish.

I've always been into monster fish and big tanks but setting up a 2-3 foot planted tank is very rewarding. I really enjoyed it and love to sit and look at this tank as much as my others.
