Hi guys , just bought 4 2-3" TFB recently . 2 red tail and 2 albinos . i have been feeding them hikari lionhead sinking pellets . got them 3 days ago , they started eating ytd . somehow their appetite is not as good as i expected and once the pellets hits the base of my aquarium(no gravel , bare bottom) , they will not go to get the pellets anymore . And what kind of food is good for power feeding TFBs? They are quite skinny and timid . If i get a few more , will it let them be braver and accept more food?

mine will eat anything you put in the tank but only way get near the bottom to feed is if there is massivore for my endli.

Flakes will work alot better then pellets for barbs easier for their small mouths to eat

thanks guys , but i cant really tell that they are well fed , could not see their stormach . before and after feeding stormach still the same size . should i be worried?

if your worried just watch to make sure they eat in a certain amount of time and can adjust the amounts by that.the rule dont always apply to every fish but can try to give enough for them to eat in 1 to 2 minutes .i use to feed till they look full and later i noticed they would spit some out from eating to much.make sure you offer enough for growth but not ever do it either.

+1 on flakes, even Hikari Cichlid Staple would work fine..
i also noticed they tend to spilt out some of the pellets , haha at first had the idea of having a TFB as clean up fish . now thinking of a fish to clean up the TFB's left over , any of you guys tried to power feed a TFB before ? Would a small school of Silver dollar be good ? currently the TFB are having Hikari Lionhead and canivourous sinking pellets as main diet

Mt TFB's are approx 8 inches including their tails and eat everything. They really enjoy if I chop up some fresh spinich for them, plus they eat black worms, hikari pellets, and Thrive granules... I have to feed almost too much sinkiong food so my clown loaches can do some bottom feeding because my TFB's will go down and hoover the gravel. If your fish do not look emaciated and are producing waste they are eating. One question though... Why a bare bottom tank ?
