A year ago or so I went to florida resort place and saw some dude catching a fish in the lake there. The fish he caught was silver with red fins, diamond shaped and medium sized, about 11 inches long.

This is the only photo I still have, lots of them got lost on the way. Those are tinfoil barbs, aren't they? Is there any fish native to florida that might look similar? I saw someone feeding them from the dock but the pictures didn't show anything besides water with a flash on it. The shoal had about 100 individuals...

If they can survive in the wild, why aren't tinfoil barbs restricted in florida? I think the lake might have been private to the resort so they could have released them into a storm water pond isolated from other water for fishing.

There was also an unidentified cichlid in the lake. They were a bit smaller than the tinfoils. Can't remember what color they were but it looks red to me in the picture. What say you? (Sorry if this is the wrong place)

That would be cool if tinfoils could live in floridas waters. But I doubt it.

Not tinfoils. I see them down at the wekiva river when I go fishing. Look like tinfoils though.
I think Bottomfeeder's right. Rudd sounds good.

Rudd in Florida? Mostly likely they're fullgrown Southern Golden shiners or possibly hybrids of Golden shiner and Rudd.

True true.....
If it was a shiner, I'd go with the red fin though.

Those do look similar indeed. Do rudd form schools? Are they native to the area?

I thought they were from europe.
