How big are they now? Based on your tape measure I would say a little over 5 inches each.
Well, sticking the tape measure in front of the tank was the most humane way I could think of to measure them, although not very successful since they're hanging back away from the front of the tank a bit. The largest of the group is over 7" (tail included) long, but I haven't wrestled her(?) into a net since sometime in July, (s)he's likely grown some. I'll have a go at her in just a few minutes and post pics in a bit.
I'd say the smallest of the set is 5".
The differences between B. schwanenfeldii and B. altus: B. altus (aka Red-tail tinfoil) does have a smaller adult size. They tend to be a warmer overall body color (darker, greyish) than B. schwanenfeldii, do not have the sharply defined black stripes in their tails, and do not have any distinct red patches in their dorsal fins (I say 'distinct' because my largest out of the set has a light dusting of rust red on the rear half of her dorsal fin).
