Tinfoil Barbs

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Picked up 2 Tinfoils today at about 4 inches. So far the peacock hasn't harrased them, the barbs will follow him all over the tank! They keep picking at each other though, will they stop that?

I wouldn't worry too much about them "picking" at each other. Tinfoils shouldn't take this play to the point of injury.

You may actually be better off if you had a few more tinfoils :WHOA: .... If you have the tank space and desire, a larger group would show more natural behavior. It sounds like they are trying to school with your PBass now !

What size tank is this, and what all is in there?

i agree they wont hurt eachother by picking at one another.
and you might also want a few more

It's a 75 with only 2 small caves and a plant or two. Right now it's the Pbass at 8" and a RTC about 4" plus the two barbs I got today.

So I assume this is a "grow out" tank? What size tank do you plan on putting them in eventually?

A 300+ gallon with about 7 schooling Tinfoils and a PBass or 2 sounds beautiful !

That RTC may be a problem though.... They REALLY can get big, and they eat everyting! The RTC will be the most danger to the tinfoils as he outgrows them. Keep an eye on him, and don't let him get too hungry, or he will help himself!

Good luck.:)

I've got 2 600 Gallon ponds that can be setup whenever neccessary but I'm hoping on keeping them in something around 1000 gallons at my bait and tackle shop. The RTC will most likely go into a pond for my personal viewing pleasure.

Yeah, tinfoils are nutty like that. I have 2 also, and they are always swimming together and knocking into each other. Also they always hang with my 6.5" jardini too, until he gets annoyed at them and chases them off. But no sooner than 2 minutes go by, the tinfoils hang with him again. :screwy:

Sweeeet !:headbang2

1000 Gal. huh? Then you need a lot more Tinfoils for a big school :D.

Im jealous.

BTW.... My sister lives in North Port. The next time I visit her I will stop in to N.P. Rod & Reel. Let me know when the 1000 gallon tank is set up. Any other tanks in the store set up now? I love huge tank set ups!
