I picked up a tiny adonis pleco for $10 the other day, put it in my 5 gallon planted tank, the tank is run with a sponge filter has 4 pygmy cories and some dwarf rasboras and a bunch of shrimp, gets a daily gallon water change. I have plans for a 75 gallon (or possibly 90 gallon) tank within the year. The pleco is about a half an inch long (if that). Any tips on raising it? Any adonis specific info? I grabbed the only one that didn't have a concave stomach. The tank has some algae growth and I toss a small algae wafer in there ever other day and repashy meat eater gel food on the opposing days. Should I add more to its diet? Eventually its going to live with an "electric pink" jack dempsy and an electric blue jack dempsy (in either a 75 or 90 gallon tank).

I have 1 of these as well and it's about 3" atm. Just give it plenty of hiding places and I feed mine everyday but I alternate it, 1 day massivore, the next algae wafers. You will need a lot bigger tank than your 90 though. These guys can get huge, around 4ft from what I read. Good luck and post pics.

I read the average adult size was 16 inches? And the livestock buyer told me he has rarely seen them body length over a foot in home aquaria. I may go with a 120 if my funds can support it, my fish are all tiny at the moment so I have some time before I need to get a big tank. I have a 46 gallon in the basement for my "in-between" tank, and then will jump up to the next size with the next student loan check (good use of my school money right? lol). I read a post on here saying they had a 4 year old adonis that was only a foot long, so hopefully I at least have 4 years before he gets over a foot long.

This is not true. They will easily reach 2'+ if housed and cared for properly.

All 7 of the Adonis I've had reached a foot (without streamers) in about 18 months from as small as 0.75" starting length. I still have 6 (5 are albino) from 10" to 16" (1 to 3 years old). They out grow a 120 gallon in less than 2 years. A 180 gallon is the minimum for keeping them long term.

Well that sucks, great misinformation from my livestock buyer at the store. I guess I'll grow it out and then sell it when it gets to big. The shop buys back fish.

Anyhow great buy of a pleco that's worth more.

So I'm worried the little guy isn't eat enough, his belly doesn't look filled out to me. I drop algae wafers in one day, and repashy meat eater gel food in the alternate days, and once or twice a week I feed the tanks live black worms. There is also algae growth in the tank as well as driftwood. Anything else I should offer, or will he get hungry enough to start eating the things I am offering? I assume he is eating something to still be alive at this point, just not eating enough to have a full rounded belly. I was thinking of trying the "morning wood" formula that repashy makes, since it is geared towards plecos specifically has anyone tried it? They also have a veggie formula I was going to get, maybe he will eat that.

Also try placing the food next to its hiding spot when the lights go off. That's what I did with mine to make sure it got enough food and now it explores the tank a lot more so I can just drop food in and it'll go after it.
