Tiny discovery that is definately worth sharing.

I don't have the space available to set up something like this, but I do appreciate your experiments very much.

I will, however, grow some plants in the in-tank sumps of the pair of 523 gallon tanks that I have coming in soon. Any recommendations?

get a good light and use hyacynth or water lettuce they are the best plants for the job

Here i was reconstructing my home big tank, but you can see the plant over the tank. Is always growing and i'm always cuting some parts of the plants. It grows to much, isn't it FireMedic?

Here another pic but the tank with fishes.

Good job FireMedic!!!!

Here is my tank. There are several vines, some are at least 6' long now. There are only a few fish in there; a 8" and a 5" motoro, and 4 giant danios. The nitrate level is around 80 ppm, hard to tell with the color chart. I also use the API test kit. I'm still amazed your nitrate is so low with just a few small plants and no water changes for 90 days. Have you tried a different test kit?

About my test kit:
I was just thinking.......it is about two years old (looking at receipt) .....hmmm, what is the shelf life of the API Kits? Hmmmm....that could change everything.
Still, the proof is in the pudding, which is ok, the plants are vigorous, the rays are frisky, the water is Gin clear, no smell.....hmmmm.
I still gotta figure out the useful life of the kits.

Good question SpotFin!
Respectfully submitted,
FireMedic.

Not sure about the shelf life of the test kits. My API nitrate kit is at least 2 years old as well.
